How to Make a Black Tooth Grin Cocktail Drink

The Black Tooth Grin is an alcoholic beverage containing Crown Royal, Seagram's 7, and cola. The drink was made popular by heavy metal guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott of the heavy metal group Pantera. Tragically, Abbott's life was cut short on December 8, 2004 when he was shot on stage by a deranged fan in Columbus, Ohio. The popularity of the drink remains, and it is often prepared as a salute to one of heavy metal's greatest guitarists.

The ingredients of the Black Tooth Grin are simple, two equal sized portions of Crown Royal and Seagram's 7 whiskey along with a splash of dark Cola. Crown Royal is a popular Canadian whiskey containing 40% alcohol by volume. Seagram's 7 (Seagram's Seven Crown) is American whiskey containing the same alcohol content as Crown Royal. Some versions of the Black Tooth Grin call for either Crown Royal or Seagram's 7 combined with cola, but the more traditional version of the drink notes that both whiskeys are used.

History of the Black Tooth Grin

As mentioned above, the driving force behind the popularity of the Black Tooth Grin was Pantera guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott. The drink's name was derived from the lyrics in Megadeth's song "Sweating Bullets":

Well, me ... It's nice talking to myself
A credit to dementia
Some day you too will know my pain
And smile its blacktooth grin
If the war inside my head
Won't take a day off I'll be dead
My icy fingers claw your back
Here I come again

Dimebag Darrell's life ended on December 8, 2004 as he was playing a show in Columbus, Ohio with the group Damageplan. During the show, Nathan Gale climbed onstage and started firing shots hitting Abbott three times in the process. Abbott left behind his legacy as one of the greatest guitarists of his genre and a drink that millions still enjoy today, the Black Tooth Grin.
